Some questions and answers about therapy.

When is the right time to call a therapist?
When you feel you want to talk to someone other than a friend or mate. When you find your self worried about yourself, or you have tried so many things and still do not feel better.

What is it like?
At best it is a conversation, with someone who listens with professional objectivity and confidentiality.

What about confidentiality?
Therapists are bound by strict rules in terms of confidentiality. Some of these terms are covered by HIPPA.

How do I pay for this?

Check with your insurance carrier.  If my service is not covered by your insurance, there are other options.

What do I need for my first meeting?

If you do not discuss fee options at your first phone contact, come with a check and your insurance card

What if I do not like my first contact with a therapist?

It is important that trust is formed for therapy to proceed. If you feel uncomfortable with your therapist and the feeling continues past the first appointment, it is best to talk about your discomfort. It helps if both you and the therapist are aware of what is happening and your discomfort is addressed.
